Made of scavenged bricks, this pathway has glazed white areas that featured foreign or unfamiliar edibles such as tamarind, carob and goji berries. People were emboldened to try these non-native foods if someone in the group could identify them, which in most cases was someone who was not a US citizen or whose family recently immigrated. Though not traditionally part of the American cuisine (if there is such a thing), these foods were purchased near my home and reflect our diverse population. 2016
