SUP-CULTURE: Multi-Sensory Community Eating Event

It took many people to pull off this magical multi-sensory experimental dinner crafted by local foragers, designers, artists, and chefs for Montclair Design Week 2019.

Some of my contributions were ceramic cups shaped like rocks, “plates” made from locally scavenged bricks, and foraged wood-ear, maitake and chicken-of-the-woods mushrooms. I also donated a found a wasps nest that became part of the pre-dinner blessing.

The event included chefs, who invented meals from locally foraged and donated products, artists who created all manner of dinnerware, the community which helped decorate, cook, plate, and serve. The evening launched with an interactive performance by New York artist Madeline Schwartzman.

Dumpster diving yielded beautiful 3-holed bricks.
Brick segments were scavenged from this debris pile.
